On February 18, hundreds of Americans gathered and paid a bomb for front row seats to watch a spectacle in Atlantic City. No, it wasn’t fireworks. It was infact the demolition of the 34-storey casino, once owned by former US President Donald Trump. The Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino earlier welcomed some of the biggest Hollywood celebrities. However, it has been closed since 2014 and the building has drastically deteriorated. So, with 3000 sticks of dynamite Trump’s former crown jewel was reduced to just a pile of rubble in a few seconds. To mark the end of an era, Trump detractors paid a whopping amount of ₹40,000 for a front seat to watch the demolition of the Trump-owned building. Read on to know more.

Trump Plaza Hotel & Casino Gets Demolished

1984 opened Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino was one of the first properties owned by Trump in the USA’s coastal gambling town of Atlantic City. It witnessed renowned Hollywood celebrities like Oprah Winfrey,  Jack Nicholson, Sean Penn, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Hulk Hogan and many others. The 34-storey casino and hotel was once the crown jewel of Donal Trump’s Atlantic city empire. But in 2014, the former Trump Plaza hotel and casino shut down. And since then the building has been in a dilapidated condition with stone chunks falling off it. So on Wednesday, February 18, using 3000 dynamite sticks the building was demolished. Within a matter of a few seconds, the famous structure crumbled into stone and dust.

Trump Detractors Paid Whopping ₹40,000 For Front Row Seats To Watch This

Trump detractors, didn’t want to miss being a chance of this Trump property demolition. So they even paid buck loads of money for front row seats to watch this casino explosion. Reports suggest that initially there was an auction where the highest bidder could press the button on the dynamite. But due to safety concerns, this was revoked. Nevertheless, front row seats to watch this demolition was auctioned. The proceeds for the highest bidders went to the Boys and Girls Club of Atlantic City.

A spectator paid a whopping $575 (₹41,000) to witness the implosion from a nearby pier. She stated to the New York Times, “It’s an end of a not-so-great era. It’s symbolic for sure. Him. Everything ending.” The demolition of this building was highly promoted on the various social media platforms. The videos went viral on the internet. Many people also commented that it was the end of a 74-year-old reign in Atlantic City.
