When you’ve excelled enough in your field to be recognised by some of the biggest stars, not just in India but across the world, you’d think the hard part is over. But proving yourself in an entirely different industry is a challenge of its own. That’s exactly what popular content creator Niharika NM experienced as she made the transition from social media to the big screen. In the latest episode of Sunday Brunch, she candidly opened up about auditioning for films, adapting to life on a movie set, and everything she has faced along the way.
Niharika NM On Content Creators Turning Actors
Despite being one of India’s biggest digital creators, Niharika NM revealed that stepping into the film industry meant starting from scratch. She shared that she had to constantly audition and prove herself, regardless of the recognition she had already earned online.
Having collaborated with Ranbir Kapoor and Tom Cruise, many may assume social media fame made the transition to acting easier, but that wasn’t the case. Over a delicious South Indian meal with Raghav Juyal and our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, she revealed that she was often viewed only as a content creator and not as an actor.
From being asked to change her hair and screen name to being suggested she erase her social media completely, she had to deal with a lot to make this transition.

Disrespect & How She Deals With It
When Kamiya asked Niharika NM if she ever second-guessed her decision to step into the entertainment industry after already achieving immense success as a content creator, she paused before replying, “I think there is disrespect sometimes in a different space towards me, and I am very short-tempered. But I don’t show it.”
Elaborating further, Niharika said that she is still learning how to deal with situations where she feels disrespected or spoken to dismissively. She shared that there are certain unwritten rules and preconceived notions on film sets that people often expect her to know.
“There are these notions, apparently, which I am always being educated about when I’m on set. And when I don’t follow those rules, they get a bit… yeah, ‘LA se aaye hai toh udhar hi jaane ko bol.’ I think about replies to these things, but I can’t say them,” she added.
Niharika also reflected on how different the experience has been from working in the digital space, where she was surrounded by her own team. She said she had often heard about the challenges women face in the industry but had never experienced them firsthand until now.
“Now that I am facing it, I know I’m not the kind to stay quiet, so I really have to hold back my tongue sometimes,” she said.
