The coronavirus lockdown has eased enough in India, with the states gradually allowing temples, monuments, malls, metro and more to reopen. And now, several amusement parks across the nation are also reopening their doors. Therefore the Centre has issued guidelines that people need to follow for visiting these entertainment parks and similar public places. The parks will operate with staggered timings and wearing masks will be mandatory. Read on to know the details.
SOPs For Operation Of Amusement Parks In India; Face Masks Are Mandatory
On October 8, 2020, The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of the Government of India has issued SOPs on preventive measures to be followed in entertainment parks and similar places to contain the spread of COVID-19. The safety guidelines that apply to the amusement parks are as follows:
- Visitors need to maintain a minimum distance of 6-feet from each other.
- Wearing face masks/ face covers is mandatory.
- The park authorities should ensure to disinfect objects susceptible to human touch, like rides, hand rails, chairs, benches, doorknobs, tabletops, etc. with one percent sodium hypochlorite solution on a daily basis. They must carry out the cleaning process before opening the parks, at the end of the day and other appropriate times.
- The authorities must ensure deep cleaning of washrooms, drinking and handwashing stations.
- Swimming pools will continue to remain closed.
- For water-themed amusement parks and water rides, the staff must ensure regular water filtration and chlorination.
- The parks will operate with staggered timings.
- Theatres will allow only 50 percent seating capacity.
- Everyone must follow respiratory etiquettes like covering mouth and nose while coughing or sneezing.
- Spitting will remain strictly prohibited.
- The parks must encourage online ticketing. If the park doesn’t have an online ticketing facility, there must be an adequate number of ticket counters to ensure social distancing.
- The parks must not allow the number of visitors at any given time to exceed the permissible limit.
- Every visitor will have to undergo thermal screening and sanitise hands during entry.
- The parks must allow only asymptomatic visitors and employees.
- Seating arrangements must ensure 6-feet distance between chairs, benches, etc.

Parks To Keep A Check On Crowds Through CCTV
As per the guidelines, the amusement parks must carry out CCTV monitoring to detect crowding at rides, food courts, etc. The websites and mobile applications of the parks must display the precautionary measures for COVID-19. They must also display the state helpline numbers, along with the numbers of the local authorities.

Visitors Are Advised To Install The Aarogya Setu App
Visitors are advised to install Aarogya Setu app on their phones. The guidelines have also advised elderly people above 65 years of age, children below 10 years, pregnant women and persons with comorbidities to refrain from visiting these public places and stay at home.
