Lakhs of people are catching trains from different railway stations in India to visit their homes and celebrate Chhath Puja with their loved ones. Ahead of the joyous occasion, the Indian Railways announced special arrangements at different railway stations to prioritise managing the major passenger footfall. This year, Northern Railways added a few special facilities to improve travellers’ experiences.
Special Arrangements By Northern Railways For Delhi Stations
According to a report by The Indian Express, railway officials stated that New Delhi railway station and Anand Vihar railway station report the highest number of passengers catching trains from Delhi during Chhath Puja every year. Keeping the rush in mind, Northern Railways made proper arrangements to control the crowd and avoid any inconveniences on station platforms.
Before the auspicious occasion, the Northern Railways parted waiting areas into different spaces. These areas have been designated for passengers travelling with reserved tickets and general tickets. As shared by a railway official, these separate tents have been decorated with carpets. The area covered with a red carpet is for travellers with reserved tickets. On the other hand, the green carpet area is for passengers without reserved tickets.
In addition, these designated areas have six ticket counters and ATVM machines, according to a report by The Financial Express. Passengers interested in buying tickets can do it quite conveniently. Northern Railways has kept a total of 18 trains on standby to use during the times of rush. And to keep an eye on the rising demand, a control room is present on New Delhi railway station’s Platform 16.

- Yellow barricades have been placed at the New Delhi station to help people find the platform.
- About 54,000 seats have been added to general compartments in 2024.
- Railways will inform passengers two hours ahead of the departure via announcements and social media platforms.
