Typhoon Dolphin In China: Over One Million People Evacuated
943 flights were cancelled in Shanghai on August 10 due to Typhoon Dolphin. The storm made landfall, bringing heavy rain and dangerous winds with it, which halted transport. According to The Indian Express, Chinese authorities have evacuated more than one million people from their homes in eastern China, including Shanghai, to keep them safe from flooding.
The authorities also issued a red alert for Typhoon Dolphin, which is being considered the strongest storm to hit China in 2026 till now. The storm is showing signs of weakening, but the authorities are taking no chances. According to NDTV, the National Meteorological Centre (NMC) has warned that parts of eastern and central China will continue to see heavy rain over the next day.

Storm Brings Torrential Rain And Flooding
Not just flight cancellations, the typhoon also led authorities to suspend public transport services, including many local trains. Five districts in Beijing are under red alert for heavy rain, and there is a warning of landslides and flooding too.
According to the BBC, a nine-year-old boy from Wenling in Zhejiang went missing after being swept into the sea, but the Chinese authorities have reported no casualties as of now. Typhoon Dolphin travelled around 6,000 km before making landfall in China. It also brought heavy rain to the Philippines, northern Taiwan and Japan’s Okinawa Island. Sadly, eight people in the Philippines lost their lives.
