Germany Now Requires Medical Proof For 1-Day Sick Leave; THESE 2 Countries Follow Similar Rules

When we get sick or feel a little burnt out, we usually take sick leave from work. And usually, you don’t need to show proof for just one day, right? But in Germany, things are changing. A proposed new rule states that employees may have to show a medical certificate even for one sick day. But Germany is not the first country to have this rule. Germany Changes Its Sick Leave Rule For Employees 

In Germany, the days of simply calling in sick and taking leave over a call or text may soon be over. The country is planning stricter workplace rules and leave reforms. According to Hindustan Times, employees may have to produce a medical certificate from the very first day of sickness.

Reportedly, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz believes prolonged absences can significantly affect work. The proposed rule is part of a 34-point reform introduced by the German Chancellor. It also includes tax cuts, pension changes and measures to reduce bureaucracy. The new reforms aim to address economic challenges and are part of the government’s effort to boost productivity.

France & China Also Have A Similar Rule

Germany is not the first country to consider such a rule. According to MSA Asia, for an employee’s sick leave to be officially recognised, they must present a sick leave certificate from a qualified physician. This document serves as proof of illness.

You may be surprised to know that France also has a similar rule. According to Service Public, employees must first inform their employer when taking sick leave. They must then support this by sending a medical certificate. This means employees may have to visit a doctor sooner than they currently do when taking sick leave. The rule could also make it harder for people to take leave without actually being ill or simply because they feel burnt out.
