Chowpatty’s Bachelorr’s To Shut Down? Well, Mumbai Police Wants This 90-YO Eatery To

If you’re a Mumbaikar, it is impossible for you not to have heard of Bachelorr’s. It is not just an iconic eatery, it is an institution. First established in the 1930s, this particular eatery has witnessed a high number of visitors, especially at night time or on the weekends. Now, the Mumbai Police has submitted a written request to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation or the BMC to demolish this 90-year-old eatery.

Mumbai Police Wants Chowpatty’s Bachelorr’s Demolished

This particular eatery has been a part of Mumbai culture for as long as it has been established. Recently, the Mumbai Police submitted a written complaint against the eatery stating that it is a traffic hazard. According to the police, people gather around the eatery in their cars and this leads to congestion.

The letter to the BMC also stated that in order to prevent severe accidents in the future, immediate action should be taken. The Mumbai Police is therefore requesting the BMC to cancel the licence of the eatery and raze the joint.

According to an article by Times Now, the management of the eatery says that the traffic jam happens, not due to the customers, but because of civic projects like Mumbai Coastal Road Project. The project has been under construction for quite some time and its construction has created a lot of nuisance in many areas.

Will The Eatery Be Shut Down?

According to what the current owner of Bachelorr’s, Aditya Agarwal, said in the Times Now article, he hasn’t heard anything about the cancellation of their licence. Agarwal also said that the police erected barricades a couple of days ago citing the G20 summit as a reason. He said that they complied with all the instructions given.

According to reports, the fact that the eatery remains open till late at night is also a hazard. However, the entire area is known for its nightlife and family-friendly places. So it raises the question as to why the police want Bachelorr’s in particular to be demolished.
