Asking a solo traveller to change his/her seat is quite a common thing that we see while travelling on flights and trains. Many people often ask other co-passengers to simply take an upper berth on a train or change seats on a flight. While a few people agree with these unnecessary demands and change seats as requested, not everyone moves to other seats. Recently, an X user shared his experience of being asked to shift to a different seat.
This Man Was Asked To Sit On A Different Seat; He Gave The Perfect Reply
Taking to the X platform, Mahesh (@Hanumanbhakt000) shared a hilarious incident of his conversation with another passenger during his journey from Bengaluru.
On a flight out of BLR. Someone asked if I could move to a different seat so their family could sit together. I said sure and that I accept cash/GPay, and told her I paid xxx for that seat. Wonder why she looked so pissed off. What did she expect me to do, jump up&out of my seat?

Mahesh boarded the flight and was sitting on his specified seat. Another passenger on the same plane came to him and asked if he could completely change his seat and move to a different row. That passenger asked Mahesh to do so as their family wanted to sit together on this flight from Bengaluru.
They were three adults – the youngest of them looked like he was in his mid 20s.

No, none of the 3 passengers planning to sit together in a row was a kid. In fact, the youngest among them was in his mid-20s, shared Mahesh.
After the X user was asked to move to a different seat, he agreed to the demand of his co-passenger. Wait, here comes the biggest twist. Mahesh was about to shift to a new seat but he had a condition for it. He agreed to move to a different seat if the other passenger paid him the extra amount spent on selecting his already booked seat on that flight. “I accept cash/GPay and told her I paid xxx for that seat”, shared Mahesh.
All right, this blew up. Anyone who uses this idea in the future, please be prepared for a REALLY angry look at first followed by a couple of muttered insults, n plenty of mumbling in the flight that is JUST out of decipherable range. Happy Ugaadi/Gudi Padva in advance, everyone!

It was indeed the funniest yet the most effective way to deal with such demands. There have been endless times when we saw others requesting people travelling alone to simply move away from their already specified seats. Mahesh’s witty response is clearly the best way to handle such unwanted situations.

Netizens Love This Idea!
X users seem to approve of this epic response of Mahesh. Asking anyone to randomly change seats is a major problem and this plan surely is a perfect way to simply say no. And why would someone even move just so that some people can sit together on a short-haul journey of hardly about 2 hours? Netizens are applauding him for this hilarious idea of asking for an extra charge for the seat.
This is a big problem. Why should everyone sit together for a one and half hour flight? Don’t people know we get charged for the seat? Same drama (trauma) on trains like vande Bharat now …

People expect charity out of nowhere and then of you ask business, you will be culprit.

Well done! 👏👏
Let me guess – she offered you a middle seat in exchange?
Not planning ahead combined with an entitled attitude deserves this response. 🤣

Perfectly right.

It happened to me once (I was on the other side and wanted someone to take my seat in the back row). Promptly offered to GPay the seat fare to him. The man was kind enough to do it.

Should do that even if not paid 😂

A couple with their small kid had two aisle seats. They occupied our seats even before we boarde the plane. It was awkward but we let them have the seats for the sake of small child.

An uncle parked himself in my paid aisle seat and exoected me to go sit in his middle seat. I refused. I came back after a pre take off bio break and he had again parked himself on my seat. I had to yell at him and shame him.

We are so used to making flippant demands with an expectation that they necessarily be met just because we requested ‘politely’.
— Shweta (@iShweta__) April 7, 2024
A pilot relative of mine told me it’s fairly common for passengers to try and sneak into business or first class after takeoff and just take a seat. The crew deal with it by pulling out the duty free trolley card machine and presenting the “onboard upgrade bill”
They always go…

The next time someone asks you to move somewhere else and you do not want to, use this response.
