Marking a significant milestone in Maharashtra’s infrastructure, the construction of the 701-km-long Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway is now completed. According to India Today, the final phase is expected to be officially inaugurated next month. This massive infrastructure project is already operational for 625 kilometres, between Nagpur and Igatpuri. Now, with this recent development, the last 76-kilometre stretch, which is extended to Mumbai, will also be open for operations.

As per reports, once inaugurated, the expressway will reduce the travel time from Mumbai to Nagpur from the current 16 hours to just eight hours! This expressway will offer a transformative impact on Maharashtra’s economic and social development. This ambitious expressway was spearheaded by Prime Minister Modi and is a key project for regional development in the state.

The Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway is a state-of-the-art communication corridor which is 701 kilometres long. It has six lanes and supports speeds of up to 150 km/h. As per reports, it has 65 flyovers, 24 interchanges, six tunnels, and numerous underpasses for vehicles and pedestrians. For wildlife preservation, over 80 dedicated structures have been incorporated to allow animals to cross the expressway safely.

The expressway was partially opened in December 2022 and March 2023. It has 30 fuel stations along the route and 21 ambulances with quick-response vehicles for emergencies on standby. It connects 10 districts directly and benefits 14 others through its extensive network.
