According to the Times of India, the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign is back ahead of Independence Day, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging citizens to turn the Tricolour into a part of every household’s celebrations. This year, he called on people to hoist the national flag with pride, honour the country’s freedom fighters and renew their pledge to contribute towards building a ‘Viksit Bharat’.
The 2026 campaign also has a special focus on Vande Mataram, as India marks the 150th anniversary of the national song. As part of the celebrations, the Culture Ministry plans to organise Tiranga yatras, rallies, concerts and mass singing of Vande Mataram across the country.

Here’s How To Respectfully Display And Handle The Indian Flag
Now, if you’re planning to bring the Indian flag home as part of the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, there are a few important rules to keep in mind. As per Hindustan Times, the Flag Code of India lays down guidelines on how the Tricolor should be displayed, handled and stored so that it is treated with the respect it deserves.
- Store it properly: Keep the Tricolour in a clean, dry place away from moisture, dirt and anything that could damage or stain it.
- Never let it touch the ground: The flag should not be allowed to touch the floor, ground or trail in water.
- Fold it carefully: Place the flag horizontally, fold the white band so that the Ashoka Chakra remains visible, and bring the saffron and green bands underneath the white band.

- Keep it away from damage: Do not crumple, tear or store the flag in a way that could damage or soil it.
- Don’t discard a damaged flag casually: If the flag becomes soiled or damaged, it should be destroyed privately and with due respect, preferably by burning or another dignified method.
- Paper flags need care too: Paper Tricolours should not be thrown on roads, left on the ground or discarded in drains. They should be disposed of privately and respectfully.
