Heavy rainfall often leaves roads flooded, causing major traffic disruptions. While waterlogging remains a common problem in many countries, a video showing how the drainage system in the USA quickly clears water after heavy rain has caught attention online. Read on to know more.
How Drainage System In The USA Work?
Social media user Gunjan Deora (@gunjan_usa_diaries) shared a video explaining how the drainage system in the USA works. In the video, she explained why roads in many American cities become dry within minutes, even after heavy rainfall. In the USA, roads are built with a slight slope, which helps rainwater flow towards drains instead of collecting on the surface. She also noted that drains are placed at short distances, allowing water to move away quickly.
Deora also explained that rainwater from house roofs is collected through special pipes. These pipes carry the water down from the roof. In some homes, the pipes connect directly to underground drains, while in others, the water flows onto the road before entering nearby drains.

Internet Reacts To The Viral Clip
The video showing the effective drainage system in the USA has gone viral and has definitely left many viewers impressed.
One user wrote, “Very good system. India must follow this.”
Another user commented, “That’s how our drains should be. Our engineers have the full potential to create a drainage system like this, but corruption and bribes often prevent such work from being done. Our roads are built by different contractors, not a single management team.”
Another user pointed out, “The road conditions still appear to be poor, with numerous potholes that resemble open drains.”
