Maharashtra Rain Update: Mumbai, Thane, Raigad On Yellow Alert; Heavy Rain Likely In Pune Ghats

Mumbai, Pune and multiple parts of Maharashtra are likely to witness another spell of active monsoon conditions this week, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a yellow alert for Mumbai, Thane, Pune and Raigad. Read on to know the Mumbai and Pune rain update.

IMD Issues Yellow Alert For Mumbai-Pune

According to a Maharashtra Times report, heavy overnight rainfall lashed the Mumbai Metropolitan Region on Sunday, while widespread rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are expected across Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada on Monday.

The new spell comes after a brief lull in rainfall following the heavy showers recorded in the first week of July. Meteorologists have attributed the fresh monsoon phenomenon to a low-pressure area stretching from Rajasthan to the northwest Bay of Bengal, along with multiple cyclonic circulations over central India and the east coast. These weather systems have boosted monsoon winds, resulting in increased rainfall across large parts of the state.

Mumbai and Thane are likely to receive heavy rain on Monday, while Raigad district also remains under a yellow alert for intense rainfall. Although rainfall has slowed along parts of the Konkan coast, occasional showers are likely to continue. Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg are expected to receive light rainfall during the day.

In western Maharashtra, the Ghats of Pune and Satara are likely to witness heavy rainfall, with the Ghatmatha region of Satara also placed under a yellow alert. Kolhapur, Sangli and Solapur districts are forecast to receive light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms.

Other Parts Of Maharashtra To Receive Low To No Rains

Monsoon activity has also increased across Marathwada. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna and Parbhani districts, while Beed, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur and Dharashiv are expected to receive light rainfall.

In north Maharashtra, Dhule, Nandurbar, Ahilyanagar, Jalgaon and Nashik are forecast to receive light rain. Moderate showers with gusty winds are also expected in the Ghat areas of Nashik district.

In contrast, Vidarbha is likely to remain largely dry despite isolated light showers reported on Sunday. No weather alerts have been declared for Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha, Washim or Yavatmal, with average rainfall activity expected to remain low across the region.
