The official handle of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has directed all schools and colleges to stay shut for the afternoon session on July 4, 2026, for safety reasons. The decision was taken after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for heavy rainfall in Mumbai. Not just that, the BMC has also requested Mumbaikars to step out of their homes only if required. 

On July 4, 2026, Mumbai recorded an average of 99 mm of rainfall during the 24-hour period ending at 8 am. According to The Times of India, the weather department has also warned of high tides, which can worsen waterlogging in low-lying areas.

Residents Advised To Stay Alert During The Rainy Weather 

Authorities have also urged people in Mumbai to follow all official weather updates. Moreover, students and parents are advised to stay in touch with their respective schools and colleges for updates regarding classes. According to India.com, this is Mumbai’s first red alert of the season. The weather department has also issued a heavy rain forecast for July 5, 2026, especially in isolated parts.

Reportedly, the southwest monsoon has hit parts of Maharashtra, and heavy rainfall and thunderstorm activity have started in several areas. The rains have led to traffic jams and waterlogging across Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar. District authorities are on alert following the IMD forecast. Necessary arrangements are being made to ensure public safety during the rainy weather.
