New Yorkers Throng 6th Avenue During Lunch Break To Watch Anne Hathaway Film Devil Wears Prada 2

While filming for The Devil Wears Prada 2 unfolded on New York’s 6th Avenue, a fan captured a subtly hilarious moment with Anne Hathaway. In a now-viral reel, the fan stood on the sidewalk eating lunch across the street from the actress, creating the illusion of a shared meal. The spontaneous gesture struck a chord online, blending celebrity culture with pure NYC serendipity.

New Yorkers Throng 6th Avenue During Lunch Break To Watch Anne Hathaway Film Devil Wears Prada 2

Only in New York can a simple lunch break turn into a scene straight out of a movie, literally! Earlier this week, an Instagram reel posted by user @mickmicknyc caught the internet’s attention. It was not because of celebrity fanfare, but because of the strangely poetic, slightly absurd and very New York interaction it captured. Spoiler: It involves Anne Hathaway, a glass-walled restaurant, and a fan who didn’t so much chase fame as cheekily join it from the other side of the sidewalk.

The caption set the mood perfectly: “Devil Wears Prada 2 is filming in NYC and today 6th Avenue turned into a theater. Only in this city can you grab lunch and witness iconic cinema in the making.”

The video opens with a quiet, almost cinematic framing which shows creator @mickmicknyc standing across the street, peering through the glass walls of a restaurant. There, unmistakably, is Anne Hathaway, in the midst of shooting The Devil Wears Prada 2. Instead of squealing, waving, or trying to grab a blurry selfie like most people might, @mickmicknyc goes in an entirely different direction.

She whips out her own lunch and begins to eat it, right there, on the sidewalk. It’s oddly touching and insanely funny. And the most fun part was that Hathaway had no idea. She’s giving a to-be iconic shot (we can vouch for it), while across the street, someone is silently “joining” her for lunch in a gesture that feels both absurd and kind of beautiful. Handled differently, it could’ve felt awkward or over-the-top, but instead, it unfolded with just the right mix of charm and spontaneity that only New York can deliver.

Internet Reacts: “It’s Giving Live Cinema”

The comments section lit up like opening night. One person wrote, “You’re watching her like it’s the actual movie,” while another joked, “Wait till the live movie.” Someone else added, “Seeing this scene in the final movie will hit different now.” The reel, for many, turned the mundane into something oddly sacred. Another fan summed it up: “So we’re going to see the whole movie before it even comes out.”

Though not everyone was amused. A few voices chimed in with backlash, writing, “Who cares,” while another rolled their eyes and penned, “People worshipping celebrities.”

People can have different opinions, but the virality of the video made one thing clear: it was about someone on the street taking what could’ve been a blink-and-you-miss-it celebrity sighting and turning it into a moment worth remembering. And maybe that’s the true New York art form: turning sidewalks into stages and strangers into co-stars.
