As per the Hindu Panchang, this year Raksha Bandhan will be celebrated on August 28. The Purnima Tithi in Shukla Paksha of Shravan will begin at 9:08 AM on August 27 and continue until 9:48 AM on August 28.
According to NewsX, Raksha Bandhan is celebrated according to the Udaya Tithi, which means the Tithi present at sunrise. This year, Purnima Tithi will be present at sunrise on August 28. Therefore, Raksha Bandhan will be celebrated on August 28, 2026, even though Purnima begins on August 27.

When Is Chandra Grahan?
As Raksha Bandhan is falling on August 28, don’t be confused by the fact that the Chandra Grahan is also taking place on the same day. The partial lunar eclipse will begin around 6:53 AM and end at 12:32 PM.
Despite taking place on August 28, the lunar eclipse will not be visible anywhere in India. The Moon will remain below the horizon throughout the eclipse. The event will occur during daylight hours across the country. This means people in cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Bengaluru will not be able to see the eclipse.
The Economic Times reported that as for international places, the eclipse will be visible in North and South America, while parts of Europe, Africa and West Asia may also get a partial view. However, it will not be visible in Australia, Antarctica and some parts of the Pacific region because of daylight conditions.
