Heavy Rainfall Hits Delhi
On Monday, Delhi received heavy rainfall, bringing much-needed relief from the heat but also causing trouble for commuters. As per India Today, areas like Connaught Place, Baba Kharak Singh Marg and ITO witnessed severe waterlogging. Two-wheelers, buses, cars and auto-rickshaws struggled to move through the flooded roads.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert and yellow alert for heavy rain across Delhi. It also warned of moderate rain, thunderstorms, lightning and winds of 30-40 kmph. The areas that will receive heavy rainfall include South East Delhi, East Delhi, Shahdara, Central Delhi, North East Delhi, South Delhi, New Delhi, South West Delhi, West Delhi, North West Delhi and North Delhi.

Several Flights Diverted

Due to bad weather conditions, several flights were diverted, while many airlines issued travel advisories. According to NDTV, a total of 15 flights were diverted from Delhi Airport. Of these, 12 were diverted to Jaipur, two to Chandigarh and one to Lucknow. The diverted flights also included three international flights.

Many airlines took to their social media handles to share travel advisories. Air India advised travellers that adverse weather could impact flights to and from Delhi. IndiGo said bad weather had affected its flight schedules and that it’s monitoring the situation. The airline also advised to check the flight updates on website so you don’t have to wait for hours at the airport. SpiceJet warned that arrivals, departures and connecting flights could face disruptions. Akasa Air also said severe weather had affected some flights across its network.
