Japan is one of the best destinations to visit. The place is known for its culture, food, anime, and so much more. One of the best experiences there is to rent a kimono and walk through its historic districts. But an Indian family recently found themselves answering to the police when they failed to follow its rules. Here’s what actually happened with them in Japan.
Indian Family Fails To Follow Kimono Rules In Japan
Renting a kimono, a traditional Japanese garment, is one of the best cultural experiences you can take part in while on a vacation in Japan. Many shops in the country offer full packages for kimonos. This includes not just the outfit but also hair styling and accessories. But of course, there are some rules that should be followed. The first is being respectful while wearing a kimono. The second is returning the outfit on time to the shop owner.
An Indian family allegedly found themselves in trouble when they failed to follow the second rule. According to a video posted on Instagram, Ashika (@ashikajain21) said that during a trip to Japan, she wanted to wear a kimono and visited a store with many colourful options. The owner guided them through everything, including the belt, footwear, and more. They also styled their hair with Japanese accessories. According to Ashika, they walked around, posed, and had a fun time in kimonos. But things soon took a turn for the worse.

A Misunderstanding With The Shop Owners
Ashika and her family were supposed to return everything by 5 pm. They were 37 minutes late. The shop charged 1100 Japanese yen (₹639 approx.) per person for every extra 30 minutes. There were five people. Ashika shared that she requested the shop owners to consider only the first 30 minutes. But due to the language barrier, the owners thought the family was refusing to pay and called the police.
Fortunately, the police calmly listened to their side and understood what the family was trying to say. They did not get any discount. But according to her, that’s Japan. Rules are strict, but people are kind. A kimono experience can be unforgettable in Japan. But keep its rules in mind if you plan to rent one on your trip.
