CTExclusive: Here’s How PM Modi Reacted To Bangalore Airport’s T2 Terminal!

The swanky new Terminal 2 at Bangalore’s Kempegowda International Airport is up and running since January 15, 2023, and it is truly a sight to behold. The impressive “terminal in a garden”, Bangalore Airport’s T2 Terminal, is spread over 255,661 sq m. It was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 11, 2022.

PM Modi Was Very Impressed By Bangalore Airport’s T2 Terminal

While everyone is in awe, PM Modi was also mighty impressed by the airport and couldn’t help but deem it an architectural marvel. In a recent interaction with Curly Tales at the T2 Terminal of BLR Airport, Hari Marar, MD and CEO of Bangalore International Airport Limited, told us what the PM thought of the terminal. He said, “He (PM Modi) loved it. He said that even if they are not travelling, they will come here to experience the terminal.”

He went on to say how the visit was private and the PM was very impressed with what the team at BLR airport was able to achieve.

As per Marar, the T2 Terminal down the line will solely cater to International passenger movement. The existing T1 will become entirely domestic. The new airport terminal can cater to an additional 25 million passengers every year.

Airlines Operating At Bangalore Airport’s T2 Terminal!

Till February 14, 2023, Star Air was the only (and first) airline to be operating from T2 Terminal. But starting February 15, 2023, AirAsia has moved its domestic flight operations to T2 as well. Marar says, by the first quarter of FY year 23-24, probably by May, more carriers will be moving operations to T2 Terminal, thereby lessening the passenger load at T1 Terminal. T2 Terminal will then cater to about 84 flights a day.

Recently, Minister of Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia also headed to Terminal 2 for a tour. He took to Twitter to share, “With hanging gardens and eye-catching structures, it represents a bouquet of new opportunities & hope.”

Designed by New York-based architectural firm SOM who have also designed the O’Hare International Airport and Kansas City International Airport along with the HQ of Walt Disney Company and more the airport dons a contemporary look. With hanging gardens, vertical green walls, two-level domestic and international retail lounges, 90 counters, 19 boarding gates, and a lot more, Terminal 2 at the Bangalore Airport is a work of art. It is also the first-ever airport to be present in the Metaverse, and that’s called BLR Metaport.
