If you’re planning to explore the state with your family or friends and have about a week, we’ve got the perfect plan for you. Our 6-day Maharashtra itinerary takes you from Mumbai to Aurangabad, ensuring you enjoy your trip without feeling too tired.

We all know that Maharashtra is one of the most visited states in India, all thanks to everyone’s favourite, Mumbai. But do you know that apart from the City of Dreams, this state has many places that deserve your attention. From scenic hill stations where people can enjoy fresh air and witness the beauty of nature to historical monuments that showcase the rich heritage of this state, there is so much to do here.

6-Days Maharashtra Itinerary

So, if you’re planning a trip soon, follow this 6-day Maharashtra itinerary that includes all the places you can visit for a memorable experience.

Day 1: Mumbai

Mumbai has always been the centre of attraction! Known for its crowded markets, famous tourist places, and street foods, the city has a lot to offer. In the morning, you can visit Chowpatty to spend some peaceful time at the beach and watch the serene sunrise.

Later in the day, you can enjoy the city’s delicious food from the stalls. In the evening, take a car ride via the Bandra-Worli Sea Link to witness Mumbai’s famous skyline. And of course, end your day by sitting at the Marine Drive for some hours, watching the water waves and the city lighting up like it’s Diwali! For the food, you can either visit the famous Khau Gali, Mahavir Nagar, or drop by a cafe or restaurant.

How To Reach: Flights, cabs, train, or bus

Day 2: Lonavala

From Mumbai, head to Lonavala, the famous hill station. It is one of the most famous getaways in Maharashtra, and should be on your itinerary as well. You can go trekking, take a refreshing dip in a waterfall, and savour the famous chikkis. This place is just a few hours away from Mumbai and looks best in the monsoon season.

If you’re planning to stay one night at Lonavala, then you can either book a hostel, hotel, Airbnb, or villa–depending on the number of travellers. If you’re a group of 10-15 people or more, then a villa is more preferable compared to hotels.

Day 3: Nashik

Nashik is known as the wine capital of India, where you can enjoy wine tasting and even live in vineyards. One of the most famous ones is Sula Vineyards, so make sure to add it to your Maharashtra itinerary. Apart from it, this place also holds religious importance and is home to the famous Jyotirlinga,  Trimbakeshwar Temple. Lastly, to conclude your day, you can take a peaceful walk at the Godavari ghats. Whether you want to relax or make it a spiritual trip, Nashik is one of the best places in Maharashtra to visit.

Day 4: Aurangabad

Aurangabad is known for its historical monuments. You can visit Bibi Ka Maqbara, also known as the mini Taj Mahal, while you’re here. If you’re fond of Maharashtrian sarees, then here you can explore the markets for the famous Paithani sarees.

Day 5: Ajanta And Ellora Caves

Spend another day exploring the Ajanta caves, where you’ll be mesmerised by the rock-cut temples, paintings that are 2,000 years old and a large sleeping Buddha. Just a few hours away from Ajanta, you can visit Ellora, famous for the caves and temples, especially the Kailash temple.

Day 6: Return to Mumbai

Spend your last day of Maharashtra in Mumbai, enjoying your day roaming around the markets and shopping at Hill Road, Linking Road, Crawford, and Colaba market. At these markets, you can shop for items starting from ₹100, with the price varying depending on the quality and the type of product. Here, you can also enjoy some street food like pani puri.

For the last day in Mumbai, don’t forget to visit the Marine Drive again and enjoy the kachhi keri and other snacks while soaking in the city’s vibe.
