1. Completion Of Purple Line To Be Delayed

According to an article recently published by the Financial Express, the completion of the Purple Line of the Kolkata Metro, also called the Joka-Esplanade corridor, will most likely be delayed. This is because the Calcutta High Court has recently ordered the Rail Vikas Nigam Limited, or RVNL, to not uproot trees for constructing the Metro station in the Maidaan area. Further hearings for the matter will be held on November 9, 2023.
2. Kolkata Metro Generates ₹6.12 Crores In Revenue During Durga Puja
Kolkata Metro earns revenue of about ₹6.12 crore during the six-day period of Durga Pujo, with 41.65 lakh passengers opting for the service.

The Kolkata Metro witnessed some of the highest number of passengers during the Durga Puja festivities this year. From Mahapanchami to Bijoydashami, Kolkata Metro managed to transport more than four lakh passengers! According to an article recently published by The Times Of India or TOI, a total of 4,165,000 passengers were transported. This resulted in the revenue generation of more than ₹6.12 crores.

3. Restriction On Goods Vehicles On VIP Road Due To Metro Rail Construction

Goods vehicles will not be allowed on VIP Road starting November 23, 2023. This is because of the construction of the Orange Line of the Kolkata Metro. The orange line connects New Garia with the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport and VIP Road is one of the major avenues that connects to the airport. As such, goods vehicles will not allowed to ply on this road at night, from 12 AM to 5:30 AM, for four days a week.

The social media handle of the Kolkata Metro recently shared pictures of the currently under-construction Orange Line. A post was shared on the micro-blogging website X (formerly known as Twitter) which stated that the work for the line was in full swing. The pictures looked quite promising and many are awaiting the completion of the Orange Line.
5. Track-Laying In The Defunct Cave-In Zone For The Green Line Begins
KMRC has started laying tracks along the 2.5 KM Esplanade-Sealdah section, taking the East West Metro Project towards the full 16 KM Sector V-Howrah Maidan run.

The Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Limited or the KMRCL has begun laying down tracks along the Esplanade-Sealdah section which stretches across 2.5 kilometres. It is a part of the East-West Metro Project which is a total of 16 kilometres long and connects Sector V to Howrah Maidaan. According to reports, the entire corridor will be completed in June 2024.
