A 13-year-old boy from Uttarakhand found himself in serious trouble after allegedly sending a hoax bomb threat email to the Delhi airport. His false claim indicated the presence of explosives inside a Dubai-bound flight. This article delves into the details of this unusual incident and its broader implications.
The Unlikely Prankster Behind The Bomb Threat On Dubai-Bound Flight
Deputy Commissioner of Police (IGI Airport) Usha Rangnani disclosed that the young boy sent the threat email “just for fun.” He was influenced by news of another teenager who had recently made a similar hoax call. On June 17, the Delhi Airport received the alarming email, prompting an immediate high alert. Authorities implemented a full emergency response to ensure the safety of passengers. Following thorough verification, officials confirmed that the threat was a hoax.
Rangnani stated, “The guidelines and protocol in the SOP were properly followed to ensure the safety and security of the passengers at the airport.” The incident set off a chain reaction of safety protocols designed to protect lives, demonstrating the serious nature of such threats, even when unfounded. An FIR was promptly lodged, and an investigation commenced. Detectives traced the email to Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand. A technical probe precisely identified the boy’s location.
Caught in the Act
A team was quickly dispatched to Pithoragarh and apprehended the boy responsible for bomb threat mail. During questioning, he admitted to using a mobile phone, provided by his parents for educational purposes, to send the hoax email. Fearing the consequences, he deleted his email ID immediately after sending the threat. He also concealed his actions from his parents, who were unaware of his prank.
The police subsequently handed the boy over to his parents. Rangnani urged the public to refrain from making hoax calls. She emphasised that such actions, even if intended as amusement, can result in severe legal repercussions, including imprisonment. This incident highlights the critical importance of understanding the serious implications of one’s actions, particularly in a digital age where communication can have far-reaching and immediate consequences.
