Delhi: From Mehrauli Archaeological Park To Shah Jahan’s Turkman Gate, 22 Monuments To Be Revamped

Delhi Tourism and Transport Development Corporation and the Archaeology Department are working together to restore 22 historic monuments in the city. With an aim to boost footfall and preserve the city's heritage, these historic sites will undergo structural repairs and modern upgrades.

Delhi: From Mehrauli Archaeological Park To Shah Jahan’s Turkman Gate, 22 Monuments To Be Revamped

From Mughal-era structures to colonial-era monuments, around 22 of Delhi’s historic monuments are undergoing much-needed restoration and revitalisation. To preserve Delhi’s rich tapestry of history, Delhi Tourism and Transport Development Corporation (DTTDC) and the Archaeology Department are set to revamp these spaces with improved accessibility, modern amenities, and renewed cultural relevance.

22 Historic Monuments In Delhi To Undergo Revamp

According to Hindustan Times, 22 historic monuments in Delhi will undergo a revamp. The DTTDC will work along with the Archaeology Department to undertake makeovers, including structural repairs, protective coatings, and modern upgrades, for some of the most famous monuments in the Capital.

According to reports, initially, about 18 sites were identified to be restored. The budget allocation for the same was about ₹12.91 crore. Now, the list has been expanded to 22 sites, and the cost of the project will go up as well, although the exact amount hasn’t been disclosed yet.

Preserving City’s Heritage

With the revamp of these monuments in Delhi, the tourism and Archaeology Department aims to preserve the city’s heritage and boost footfall in these spots. Keeping in mind each monument’s stability and restoration feasibility, the departments will come up with different plans for them. Hindustan Times’ report outlined the following plans for some of these monuments –

1. Sites like Quli Tomb in Mehrauli Archaeological Park and Shah Jahan’s Turkman Gate will undergo restoration.

2. Tomb of Paik near Makarba Chowk, built during the Mughal era, will be revamped and soon have amenities like an amphitheatre and a cafe.

3. Bijri Khan Tomb near RK Puram and Bara Lao Gumbad near Vasant Vihar will get facelifts.

4. Bhuli Bhatiyari ka Mahal near Jhandewalan and Zail Memorial in Bawana, and Mutiny Memorial are also listed among the 22 sites that will undergo renovation.
