What Is It?

Earlier, Delhi cases were under control and were not rising at this rate every day. The Nizamuddin Tablighi incident, however, gave it an exponential rise due to which Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal held an emergency meeting with top officials. After that, they announced sealing of 20 hotspots of coronavirus across the national capital comprising small pockets of settlements, apartments and complexes. This step was taken to contain the spread of the pandemic. They also made it compulsory for people to wear face masks when stepping outdoors, at all times.

“Wearing of facial masks can reduce the spread of coronavirus substantially. Therefore, it has been decided that facial masks will be compulsory for anyone stepping out of their house. Cloth mask shall be eligible, too,” Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was reported as saying.

Other Indian States To Make Masks Compulsory

Not only Delhi, various state governments, including Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka on Wednesday, made it compulsory for people to wear masks in public areas.

Delhi government had cordoned off 20 hotspots, which had reported a high number of cases, parts of Nizamuddin, Dilshad Garden, Sadar Bazaar and Mayur Vihar. “We have decided to seal these areas so nobody will be allowed to enter or exit from these lanes, buildings and colonies,” Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia added.

Strict Action To Be Taken Against Offenders

Deputy Chief Minister, who attended the meeting, also said that strict action would be taken against those not wearing masks while stepping out of their houses. Nobody will be allowed to enter or exit from these areas, and the government will ensure delivery of essential items there.
