Today is Hanuman Jayanti and the festival is celebrated widely in Delhi NCR. Anticipating heavy traffic and congestion in various parts of the city, the Delhi Police has issued an advisory for public convenience. This traffic advisory for April 23 specifies traffic restrictions, diversions, and routes to avoid in Delhi. Read on to learn more about them.
Heavy Traffic Expected Around Central Delhi On Hanuman Jayanti
On the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti, many organisations are scheduled to celebrate and hold processions across Delhi. One of the biggest is the Hanuman Mandir Committee at Hanuman Mandir located near Connaught Place’s Baba Kharak Singh Marg. This massive celebration is likely to gather around 50,000 to 60,000 devotees. Also, there will be a Shobha Yatra from 3 PM to 6 PM which will see the participation of around 1,500 people. This will impact the traffic in Central Delhi and the surrounding areas.

The Delhi Police took to X (formerly Twitter) to release a traffic advisory to avoid any traffic disruption. According to this advisory, no vehicles will be allowed to halt or park on Baba Kharak Singh Marg and Outer CC, Connaught Place. This will make traffic management easier in the area. Also, any parked vehicle will be “ towed away and prosecuted according to the law.” Traffic on Outer CC Baba Kharak Singh Marg, roundabout GPO, roundabout Patel Chowk, and roundabout Windsor Place will also be diverted to avoid congestion.

Routes To Avoid In Delhi Today
To avoid traffic congestion on Hanuman Jayanti 2024, Delhi Police has asked people to avoid the following routes from 11 PM to 9 PM on April 23 –
- Roundabout GPO to Outer CC
- Baba Karak Singh Marg
- Outer CC Connaught Place
- Panchkuian Road
- Mandir Marg
- Kali Badi Marg
- Ashok Road
- Janpath
If you’re travelling towards ISBT, railway stations, or the airport, it is advisable to plan your travel in advance as the traffic can cause delays. The advisory also urged people to make maximum use of public transport today.

Besides Central Delhi, another advisory has been issued by the Delhi Police. This is for a Sunderkand Paath that is being organised by Marghat Wale Baba Hanuman Mandir Samiti from 5 PM. As per the advisory, thousands of people are expected to participate. The advisory mentioned the diversion points — left turn towards Hanuman Mandir at Y-Point Salimgarh by-pass, under Hanuman Setu and Chatta Rail Chowk. So, plan your travel accordingly.
