Delhi Police Issues Traffic Advisory For Independence Day; Road Closures And Routes You Need To Know

As Delhi gears up for the grand Independence Day celebrations on August 15, it’s essential for all Delhiites to be aware of significant travel updates that could impact their commute. The celebrations centred around the iconic Red Fort, will involve various preparations and security measures, which could lead to traffic disruptions and road closures across Delhi.

Traffic During Independence Day Celebrations In Delhi

On August 15, the Independence Day celebrations at Red Fort will lead to a series of road closures and traffic restrictions. From early in the morning, specifically between 4 am and 11 am, several key roads will be closed to the general public. Only vehicles with special labels issued by the Delhi Traffic Police will be allowed to use these routes. This is to ensure the smooth movement of VIPs and to maintain security during the celebrations.

The Delhi Traffic Police have issued an advisory that includes detailed instructions for those attending the Independence Day ceremony, as well as for the general public to help navigate the traffic situation:

Parking Instructions For Vehicles With Labels:

Vehicles with Labels for Parking No. 1 & SS (Coming from South Delhi):

Route: Rajghat Crossing -> Shanti Van Crossing -> Left at Nishad Raj Marg -> Right onto Moat Road -> Right at Delhi Gate -> Hathi Gate -> Respective Parking.

Vehicles with Labels for Parking No. 1 & SS (Coming from North Delhi):

Route: ISBT Kashmiri Gate -> Hanuman Setu Outer Ring Road -> Geeta Colony Flyover -> Shanti Van Crossing -> Left at Nishad Raj Marg -> Right onto Moat Road -> Right at Delhi Gate -> Hathi Gate -> Respective Parking.

Vehicles with Labels for Parking No. 4 (Coming from South Delhi):

Route: Rajghat Crossing -> Shanti Van Crossing -> Left at Nishad Raj Marg -> Right onto Lower Netaji Subhash Marg -> Respective Parking.

Vehicles with Labels for Parking No. 4 (Coming from North Delhi):

Route: ISBT Kashmiri Gate -> Hanuman Setu -> Outer Ring Road -> Geeta Colony Flyover -> Shanti Van Crossing -> Left at Nishad Raj Marg -> Right onto Lower Netaji Subhash Marg -> Respective Parking.

Vehicles with Labels for Parking No. 4A & 5 (Coming from South Delhi):

Route: Delhi Gate -> Right onto NS Marg -> For Parking No. 4A: Use the wrong carriageway on Lower Netaji Subhash Marg -> For Parking No. 05: Use Upper Netaji Subhash Marg -> Respective Parking.

Vehicles with Labels for Parking No. 4A & 5 (Coming from North Delhi):

Route: ISBT Kashmiri Gate -> Hanuman Setu -> Outer Ring Road -> Geeta Colony Flyover -> Shanti Van Crossing -> Left at Raj Ghat Crossing -> Right at Delhi Gate -> Right onto NS Marg -> For Parking No. 4A: Use the wrong carriageway on Lower Netaji Subhash Marg -> For Parking No. 05: Use Upper Netaji Subhash Marg -> Respective Parking.

Vehicles with Labels for Parking No. 2, 2A & 3 (Coming from South Delhi):

Route: Raj Ghat Crossing -> Shanti Van -> Vijay Ghat -> Saleem Garh Y Point -> Left at Slip Road -> Left onto SPM Marg -> Chhatta Rail Chowk -> Lower NS Marg -> Left at Angoori Bagh Cut -> Respective Parking.

Vehicles with Labels for Parking No. 2, 2A & 3 (Coming from North Delhi):

Route: ISBT Kashmiri Gate -> Hanuman Setu -> Right onto SPM Marg -> Chhatta Rail Chowk -> Lower NS Marg -> Left at Angoori Bagh Cut -> Respective Parking.

Road Closures And Traffic Restrictions In Delhi

Several major roads in Delhi will remain closed on Independence Day to facilitate the event:

  • Netaji Subhash Marg: From Delhi Gate to Chhatta Rail.
  • Lothian Road: From GPO to Chhatta Rail.
  • SP Mukherjee Marg: From HC Sen Marg to Yamuna Bazar Chowk.
  • Chandni Chowk Road: From Fountain Chowk to Red Fort.
  • Nishad Raj Marg: From Ring Road to Netaji Subhash Marg.
  • Esplanade Road and Link Road: To Netaji Subhash Marg.
  • Ring Road: From Rajghat to ISBT.
  • Outer Ring Road: From ISBT to IP flyover (Salimgarh bypass).
  • Old Iron Bridge and Geeta Colony Bridge: Both will be closed.

Routes To Avoid For Vehicles Without Parking Labels:

For those not attending the event in Delhi, it’s advised to avoid the following routes due to heavy traffic restrictions:

  • C-Hexagon India Gate
  • Copernicus Marg, Mandi House
  • Sikandra Road
  • W Point
  • A Point Tilak Marg
  • Mathura Road
  • BSZ Marg
  • Netaji Subhash Marg
  • JL Nehru Marg
  • Ring Road between Nizamuddin Khatta and ISBT Kashmiri Gate
  • Outer Ring Road from Nizamuddin Khatta to ISBT Kashmiri Gate via Salimgarh bypass

Delhi folks are advised to plan their commutes accordingly and avoid the traffic to minimise inconvenience.
