The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) intends to establish a ‘night food street’ along the Yamuna, close to the Salimgarh Fort-Red Fort complex, where popular delicacies from the Old Delhi region would be served at night. Delhi’s first-night food street is being prepared by MCD as part of a project that would probably be finished before the upcoming G-20 conference in September.

According to Hindustan Times, a senior official said that the proposed site for the food street had been cleared of encroachments around two months back and the site is being levelled for development of the hosting area. Since the site is located right next to Red Fort and Salimgarh Fort—monuments protected by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI)—these would mostly be tents to create the hosting area. The eateries will be asked to present their food items on the kiosks. The civic body will provide the basic infrastructure, water and space to them.

The Delhi-6 neighbourhood will be the only location where the food night street would take place. It is anticipated that foreign guests would arrive for G20 sessions. To demonstrate the diversity of Delhi’s well-liked street cuisine, the idea might be reproduced in other areas of the city if it is effective. During food festivals, the location can also be used to accommodate food trucks. An official stated that a thorough project study is being created before the bids are released.
