Delhi Metro is adding new trains and routes to improve connectivity across the capital. Now, the latest addition to the Delhi Metro network is the Golden Line. It will offer better connectivity across South Delhi, and you won’t have to wait long as the first section is expected to start operations in just a few months.
When Will Delhi Metro’s Golden Line Start Operations?
The first section of Delhi Metro’s Golden Line, an 8.4-km stretch between Tughlaqabad and Sangam Vihar, is expected to launch soon. As per Metro Rail News report, this Golden Line is part of the 23.6-km Aerocity-Tughlaqabad corridor. According to Anuj Dayal, Principal Executive Director, Corporate Communications, DMRC, the section could open by December. The remaining sections will open in parts.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said 80% of the civil work on the Golden Line has been completed. The first section will have four stations:
- Tughlaqabad
- Tughlaqabad Railway Colony
- Anandmayee Marg Junction
- Sangam Vihar
Among these four, Tughlaqabad, Tughlaqabad Railway Colony and Anandmayee Marg Junction will have underground stations. To make travel easier, Tughlaqabad will also connect with the existing Violet Line.

Double-Decker Section Between Sangam Vihar & Ambedkar Nagar
The Golden Line corridor will also have a 2.4-km double-decker section between Sangam Vihar and Ambedkar Nagar. According to Metro Rail News report, Metro trains will run on the upper deck and road traffic below it. DMRC is building this Golden Line as part of Phase IV of its Delhi Metro expansion plan. Once the entire corridor starts running, it will make travel between the east and west parts of South Delhi easier.
DMRC also plans to add three more extensions to the Golden Line, taking its total network length to 38.2 km. These include the 8.3-km Lajpat Nagar-Saket G Block extension under Phase 4, the 2.2-km Aerocity-IGI Terminal 1 extension under Phase 5(A), and the 3.9-km Kalindi Kunj-Tughlaqabad extension under Phase 5(A).
