After the success of Namo Bharat (Regional Rapid Transit System – RRTS) run on the Delhi-Meerut stretch, now the authorities are accelerating the launch of construction on the Delhi-Karnal corridor. Read on to know more about the development.
Delhi-Karnal Namo Bharat Project
As per a report by DNA, the initial activity for this project has already started, and it’s awaiting the Union Cabinet’s final nod. Once ready, the corridor will likely simplify travel on this route going forward. The Namo Bharat planned between Delhi and Karnal will span around 136 kilometres. A major part of it will be elevated, which will cut down land acquisition hurdles and speed up execution. The layout will be taken up along national highways and will further strengthen connectivity.

To push the project further, the NCRTC (National Capital Region Transport Corporation) has started shifting major utilities, covering power and water lines. Additionally, bids were floated recently for moving 33 kV and 11 kV electricity cables. Work is being lined up to shift around 36 kilometres of sewer and water pipelines, indicating that the project is moving ahead rapidly.
As per the news portal, the central aspect of the Delhi-Karnal stretch will be its big interchange hubs. Starting at Sarai Kale Khan, the stretch will link with the Delhi Metro at major points like Indraprastha and Kashmere Gate. The access will also be extended at the Kashmere Gate bus terminal, which will enable travellers to switch between train, metro, and bus services.
Delhi-Karnal Corridor To Cut Travel Time
Initially, three Namo Bharat corridors were proposed, which were Delhi-Meerut, Delhi-Gurugram-SNB, and Delhi-Panipat. But on the Haryana government’s request, the Panipat stretch was later extended to Karnal. The construction on the Delhi-Karnal corridor could start earlier than the Delhi-Gurugram corridor.Once completed, the Delhi-Karnal Namo Bharat will make travel between Delhi and Haryana way easier. Daily travellers will see relief from traffic congestion, cutting travel time to just 90 minutes. The corridor will also drive development and investment in the adjoining areas.
