Located about 15 kilometres from Gurgaon, Sultanpur National Park is a beautiful nature and bird reserve that attracts many nature enthusiasts. After an annual three-month closure, the site is once again all set to open to visitors from October 1, and here’s everything you need to know.
Sultanpur National Park In Gurgaon Is A Paradise For Birdwatchers
Sultanpur National Park, 15 km away from Gurgaon, is an absolute paradise for birdwatchers. Every winter, thousands of incredible migratory birds fly millions of miles from cold regions like Serbia, Europe and Central Asia to rest and feed here.
The national park is primarily known for birds like Greater Flamingos, Painted Storks, Kingfishers, Siberian Cranes, Glossy Ibis, Woolly-necked Storks, Bar-headed Geese and more. But sometimes, people can also spot Nilgai, Hog Deer and Sambar Deer here. According to The Times of India, Sultanpur National Park is spread over 142 hectares and is an internationally recognised wetland under the Ramsar Convention.
The site remains shut every year from June 1 to September 30 to give its ecosystem a break and reduce disturbances during the peak summer and monsoon season. But it is all set to reopen to visitors from October 1, 2026.

Free Entry For 7 Days
According to The Times of India, important maintenance work, including desilting of water bodies, habitat improvement and repair of visitor facilities, was carried out during the closure period of the park. There is something you need to know if you are planning to visit. The wildlife department has announced free entry for visitors for seven days after reopening to encourage nature lovers to visit.
The park is home to nearly 6,000 birds, including 30 species of water birds. There are AI cameras installed in the park to capture elusive flocks, detect rare species and track the arrival and departure of birds in near real time. The cameras also help authorities spot habitat stress and environmental threats early so that they can take prompt action.
