If you don’t want to be the next person to pay challan of Rs 23,000, and then be given a special invitation to the court as well, then you better read on carefully.
After the recent amendments have come to light, the Motor Vehicle Rules in the Capital will be getting stricter for Delhiites who pay more attention to violating them than following them. Not only will the defaulters have to pay higher penalty costs for not abiding by the rules, but will also have to go to the court to settle their challan amount. This move has been initiated as the Delhi Government hasn’t been able to zero down a final amount (as per a particular section of the given Act) that a person would have to pay challan to settle it on-the-spot.

From bigger offenses like drunk driving, misbehaving with the police to smaller violations will now have to pay challan in court. Many officials believe that visiting the court-house for small-time offences would be a matter of inconvenience, not only for the people but officials as well.

After the revision, defaulters will have to pay challan of Rs 1,000 for penalties like driving without a helmet, speeding or skipping a signal, which was initially slabbed at Rs 100 – Rs 400.
Just to give you an idea as to how serious these guys, on the first day, 3,900 challans were issued. So, be wise and follow the rules, because if you break the law, the only road you’ll get to drive one, will be the one that leads to the court.
