Delhi’s Air Quality Is ‘Severe’ In Some Places; IMD Issues Alerts For A Dust Storm!

Delhi, the National Capital of India, is a historic place and is currently home to several important government buildings and offices. However, the air quality index of this important city is not good. On Wednesday morning, the city’s air quality was recorded between ‘severe’ to ‘very poor’. Here’s what IMD (Indian Meteorological Department) has to say on this.

Delhi’s Air Quality Was Recorded As ‘Severe’!

On Wednesday, the 24-Hours Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded for monitoring stations in Delhi. The results were between ‘severe’ and ‘very poor’. Moreover, PM10 (particulate matter 10 micrometres) levels remained high due to dust in the city. According to the data available at Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), 19 out of 35 recorded a ‘severe’ category AQI. In addition to this, PM10 was a prominent pollutant in these areas. The CPCB states that AQI from 401 to 500 is considered ‘severe’. It can have adverse effects on healthy people and can worsen existing diseases.

At 9 am, the 24-hour average AQI for Delhi was 395, which is on the higher end of the “very poor” scale. According to the CPCB’s rating, air quality between 301 to 400 is considered “very poor” and can lead to respiratory sickness if exposed for an extended period of time. In addition to this, the PM10 levels were high last night and early this morning.

A dust storm or dust-raising winds are highly likely to occur on Wednesday and Thursday in a few isolated locations in Haryana, Delhi, western Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, according to an advisory from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) that was released on Wednesday. They also forecast a possibility of very light rainfall along with thunderstorm wind speeds of 30 to 40 kmph.

The minimum temperature on Wednesday morning was 25.4 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature is forecast to be in the range of 39 degrees Celsius.

Delhi’s air pollution and poor air quality are becoming a matter of concern. Moreover, this is having a harmful effect on the lungs!
