The coronavirus lockdown has given many of us an opportunity to spend quality time with our families, and catch up on some rest. But there are many people out there, who are stuck away from home, lost their jobs or have no roof above their heads. However, in this dire time, there are good Samaritans in the form of NGOs and restaurants who have come together to help them out. Desi Masala a restaurant in Bangalore is serving 10,000 free meals a day to the underprivileged amid the lockdown.

What’s In It?

A restaurant situated in Banaswadi area in Bangalore is doing its bit to serve the society. Running a campaign called Food for Needy, Desi Masala aims to feed the hungry. From serving 700 free meals a day, they are now serving 10,000 a day. The restaurant has managed to feed more than 1 lakh meals to daily wage workers in the area. The team is led by the directors of the restaurant, Sachin Jain, Sandeep Jain and Manish Jain. The meals are prepared in the restaurant’s kitchen. Friends and families of the team are also volunteering for this cause. Local police officials and NGOs have joined hands with them.

The hot scrumptious meals have been able to feed slum dwellers, daily wage and migrant workers, orphanages, old age homes and Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagar Palike workers. The team stated to Bangalore Mirror that they were trying to help people. But little did they know that this family initiative would turn huge. The team emphasises that they’re blessed to have this opportunity to help people who are in need. They credit their team of volunteers for their contribution. One of the brothers, Manish Jain stated that nothing is more peaceful than being blessed by numerous people whom they barely know. He heartfully states that this is one of the most fulfilling journeys of his life. And he is amazed by the level of support that he has received from officials and volunteer teams. The team is grateful for every contribution they have received, big or small. It has made a difference in the lives of people.
