DGCA Suspends Licence Of IndiGo Pilot For 3 Months In The Tail Strike Incident Of Ahmedabad

An IndiGo flight suffered a tail-strike incident on 15 June while taking off from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad. The tail of Flight 6E6595 struck the airport runway during landing in Ahmedabad last month. Following the incident back in June, the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) grounded the aircraft at the Ahmedabad airport for repairs.

DGCA Has Suspended The Involved Pilot & Co-Pilot Of This IndiGo Flight

Following an inspection, the regulatory body in the field of Civil Aviation took strict actions and suspended both the pilot and the co-pilot of the flight flying from Bengaluru to Ahmedabad that met with the tail-strike incident at Ahmedabad Airport. DGCA suspended their flying license in response to the incident. The regulator suspended the licence of the pilot-in-command for 3 months and the co-pilot for 1 month.

IndiGo pilots violated the safety aviation norms and Standard Operating Procedures. DGCA was quoted saying “Investigation has revealed that the crew carried out the landing in deviation of established standard operating procedure”, according to a report by The Indian Express.

The Pilots Were Grounded Till The Inspection Of The Incident Continued

After the incident on 15 June, DGCA issued a show notice to both the pilot and co-pilot of the IndiGo flight. A thorough investigation took place regarding this incident. An official of the regulatory body stated that the decision to suspend the flying licence of the pilots has been taken after examination of their replies and facts on this incident.

After the scary incident at the Ahmedabad airport on 15 June, the IndiGo aircraft was declared grounded by DGCA. The reason behind grounding the flight was to conduct repairs, evaluate its condition, and initiate a probe. Later, concerned authorities conducted an inspection and investigation of this IndiGo flight incident and came to a conclusion.

Right after the tail of the aircraft struck the airport runway, the pilot quickly took control of the scary situation and handled it well to eventually make a safe landing at the Ahmedabad airport. There were about 200 passengers on the flight but gladly no one faced any injuries.
