There are a lot of development projects that are coming up soon in Saudi Arabia. From a new theme park in Riyadh to a new resort in AlUla, these new destinations are sure to attract tourists to the kingdom. And now, there are reports that Red Sea International Airport will soon be opening in Saudi Arabia. And by soon, we mean as early as this summer! Here’s all you need to know about the upcoming international airport.

In an interview with Arabian Business, John Pagano, the CEO of Red Sea Global, revealed that Red Sea International Airport will open this summer. Yes, while it will open initially with a capacity to handle domestic arrivals, however, by 2024, the airport will also be able to accommodate international flights. This will be a full-scale boutique airport that has been built to handle aircraft of all sizes, including private jets and Airbus A380. Not to mention, the report also revealed that this will be the only airport in the region to have a dedicated runway for seaplanes! Moreover, the airport will be powered by renewable energy.

What Exciting Features Can You Expect Here?

As it happens, this international airport will feature state-of-the-art amenities, which will include a spa, high-quality restaurants, and will also boast the capacity to serve a whopping 1 million passengers. It should be mentioned that the Red Sea is surrounded by the world’s fourth-largest barrier reef system. Yes, this spans over 28,000 square kilometres. As a result, the destination will include over 90 untouched islands, dormant volcanoes, pristine beaches, and lots more! As such, the airport also aims to become the first carbon-neutral airport in the Middle East. An interesting feature of this new airport will be that there will not be any baggage claim area. Yes, according to the website, the luggage will instead be delivered to the guest’s hotel room. This will, in turn, helps in reducing the processing time!
