What Is Kohitur Mango?

Kohitur Mango is one of the rarest and most premium mango varieties. One of the most interesting facts about this mango is that it was created during the reign of Nawab Siraj-ud-Daulah. These mangoes are not ordinary and are traditionally not cut with common metal knives. Instead, a wooden knife is used to cut the fruit to maintain its purity and quality. Taking to his social media handle, Indian billionaire Harsh Goenka revealed that as one of the most expensive mangoes in India, it can cost around ₹1,500 or even more for a single piece.
Kohitur Mango cannot be plucked at just any time; it must be picked at the right stage of ripeness and should never fall to the ground. It is carefully placed in cotton wool, and its sides are changed from time to time. It should not be held for long, as hand warmth can affect natural ripening. Its taste is sweet yet subtle, not overpowering.

History Of This Mango
The history of Kohitur Mango is as rich as its taste. This special mango variety was created during the reign of Nawab Siraj-ud-Daulah, under his orders, by a royal horticulturist named Hakim Ada Mohammadi. The mango was created by grafting some of the finest mango saplings from across India, including the rare Kalopahar variety.
Some stories also connect Kohitur to Nawab Murshid Quli Khan. It is said that he first tasted this mango in Yangon, earlier known as Rangoon, and later brought it back to Murshidabad. Over time, it became known as one of the most special mangoes in India.
