According to a forecast by Dubai Airports, it was revealed that they are expecting a surge in passengers, which may result in the annual passenger traffic for Dubai International Airport reaching a whopping 86.8 million! Surpassing the traffic for 2019, this development comes after DXB began the second half of 2023 with its growth story continuing the trend. Yes, the average monthly traffic reached a record 7.6 million, which tracked pre-pandemic levels throughout the third quarter! It’s worth noting that the world’s largest hub also recorded 22.9 million passengers in quarter three, which is also the highest quarterly traffic since 2019. So, taking the total year-to-date traffic for the first nine months of the year to 64.5 million, this shows that there is a surge of 39.3%. The figures are as compared to the same period in 2022 and 1% above 2019.

The Record-Breaking Numbers To Continue For Q4

As it happens, Dubai Airports is also expecting that the record-breaking numbers may continue for Quarter 4 of 2023 and continue till 2024. And to accommodate this growth and the ambition to revolutionise the guest journey at the Dubai International Airport for the passengers, the Dubai Airports is undertaking a strategic project that aims to expand the infrastructure capacity while also enhancing operational efficiency. It’s also worth noting that currently, the Dubai International Airport has a capacity of 100 million passengers annually. Moreover, innovative technology, expansion and refurbishment of the existing infrastructure can be deployed.
Not to mention, the passenger traffic for the first nine months also shed light on the fact that Dubai International Airport was the top country destination in terms of traffic volume! This was followed by Saudi Arabia with 4.8 million passengers and the UK with 4.4 million passengers!
As such, the baggage handling system at the airport processed a total of 57.5 million bags in 2023! And with a success rate of 99.8%, the rate of mishandled bags per 1,000 passengers is at 2.5%. And talking about the baggage delivery, 91% of all baggage was delivered within 45 minutes to the guests.
