While parts of the region dealt with real aviation disruption, Emirates quietly posted one of the lowest cancellation rates in the world.

Emirates recorded a flight cancellation rate of just 0.16% in June; that’s fewer than two cancellations for every 1,000 scheduled flights, according to fresh operational data from aviation analytics firm OAG. Given the regional disruption that’s been affecting Gulf aviation for weeks now, that’s a genuinely strong number to post.

Emirates Ranks Among The World’s Most Reliable Airlines For Flight Cancellations

The result put Emirates first in the Middle East and 10th worldwide among large airlines, tied with Aeromexico, according to Arabic daily Al Khaleej’s reporting on the figures. What stands out more than the ranking itself is who Emirates outperformed to get there: Korean Air, Copa Airlines, Saudia and WestJet all recorded higher cancellation rates over the same period. That’s not a small list of carriers to beat on reliability, particularly during a stretch when Gulf airspace has been under genuine operational pressure.

It’s Not Just About Cancellations, Either

Emirates also placed seventh globally for on-time performance among airlines operating between 10,000 and 20,000 flights a month. Based on an assessment of 12,608 flights during June, OAG found that 85.24% of Emirates flights arrived or departed within 15 minutes of their scheduled time. Put the two figures together- low cancellations and strong punctuality- and it points to an airline managing its network carefully rather than just getting lucky on a quiet month.

Why This Number Matters Right Now

Context matters here. This performance came during a period when regional disruption tied to wider Gulf tensions has forced several airlines, including some UAE carriers, to cancel or delay flights on specific routes. Emirates maintaining this level of reliability against that backdrop says something about operational resilience rather than just favourable conditions. It also builds on a pattern Emirates has repeatedly landed in global top-tier rankings for its service and operations, and UAE carriers more broadly have had a strong run on international scorecards, with Etihad and Emirates both cracking the world’s top 20 airlines list earlier this year. For anyone booking Emirates flights through the rest of summer, this is a fairly solid reassurance to have on hand.
