Jet skiing is one of the most popular activities on the coastline of Dubai. Whether it’s from Jumeirah Beach to the Palm or Dubai Marina, it is truly one of the most popular water sports for residents and tourists in the emirate. And the whole feeling of wind playing with your hair as you glide on the surface of the water is truly an experience that people can’t get enough of. However, if you are also planning to jet ski, there are several rules, penalties for not following them, and designated places that you must know of before you get on with this water sport.

Jet Skiing Is A Popular Water Sport In Dubai

While jet skiing is a popular activity amongst people, there are many rules that one must follow before they take on this water sport in Dubai. Not following these can be quite fatal. In fact, a tourist recently passed away after the jet ski she and a relative were riding crashed into the backwater near Jumeirah. The relative, however, suffered serious injuries. So, it is important to know where you can jet ski in Dubai.

Know Where To Jet Ski

There are only certain designated areas where you can jet ski. According to the official guidelines, flyers have named three approved areas, as mentioned by the Gulf News. These approved areas are Dubai Marina, Jumeirah 2 & 3, and Umm Suqeim 1 & 2. Beyond these, rental operators and travel guides have also commonly listed other popular spots. These are along the coastline of Dubai, and these include Kite Beach, JBR (The Beach), Al Mamzar, and areas near Palm Jumeirah. So, before you go on and rent your Jet Ski, make sure to check the spot where you will be jet skiing and ensure it’s in an approved zone.

Important Rules To Follow While Jet Skiing In Dubai

Now, water can sometimes be unpredictable, and while jet skiing is a fun-filled experience, it can also be dangerous or even fatal in some cases. So, it is important to follow rules before you venture into the water. Some of these jet skiing rules that you must know are as follows:

  • Make sure to wear a life jacket at all times and ensure that you’re doing so properly before you set off on the jet ski.
  • Only ride within the marked boundaries of the zone and steer clear of swimming beaches and hotel areas.
  • Make sure to ride during the permitted riding hours.
  • Do not overload the jet ski beyond its capacity.
  • Make sure to ride responsibly and do not do so recklessly. A speed limit of 5 to 7 nautical miles has been set by the Dubai Police in the General Zone.
  • Make sure to keep a safe distance from other vessels, shoreline and swimmers.
  • Ensure that the jet ski license registration is valid.
  • Make sure that you are of age to drive a jet ski. According to the rules of the Dubai RTA, the driver of the jet ski cannot be less than 16 years old, except when they are accompanied by a custodian or a qualified coach.
  • Before you head out, ensure that you are familiar with the ‘Sail Safely’ features of the Dubai Police smart app.

Not Following Rules Can Lead To Fines

It is important that you follow these rules as they are for your safety and for those around you. In fact, there are several fines that come with not following the rules for jet skiing.

  • Operating with an expired license can fetch a fine of AED1000.
  • If you fail to wear a jacket or helmet, you will be liable to pay AED1000 as a penalty.
  • If a person is found riding outside a designated area, they will be liable to pay AED1,000 fine.
  • Harassing or disturbing others can lead to a fine of AED2000.

Finally, in case of emergency, one can report a violation or call 999. They can also use a ‘Sail Safely’ feature on the Dubai Police app. So, if you are planning to go jet skiing, don’t forget to be safe while you partake in this activity.
