Idols have been immersed in most puja pandals except some of the biggest names of West Bengal. The City of Joy’s Durga Puja Carnival is always a delight to witness. The grand farewell to Maa Durga and her entourage is all set to take place on October 27, 2023, in Kolkata.

The annual farewell arrangement for Maa Durga has always been a remarkable experience. The Tourism Department of the West Bengal government organises this event. Extravagant preparations and grand celebrations are conducted to organise the carnival and bid adieu to Maa Durga. This year, the Durga Puja Carnival is taking place on Kolkata’s Red Road and we are so excited to take you through the last-minute preparations now.

About 100 puja pandal committees from Kolkata and other places in West Bengal are participating in the carnival on Friday, from 4 PM to 10 PM. Everyone is ready to represent their names with the magnificent idols of Maa Durga. To add more glam and glitz to the final celebrations, cultural performances are also coming up.  In this carnival, all the idols are showcased on the Red Road among a humongous crowd of thousands of devotees.

Some officials shared that the Consul General or representatives from 14 nations are set to attend the carnival on Friday, according to a report by the Indian Express. The countries are:

  • Italy
  • Japan
  • Myanmar
  • Nepal
  • Russia
  • Thailand
  • USA

What Are The Arrangements For The Carnival?

Tons of preparations take place for the Durga Puja carnival every year. Along with the idols, one of the biggest highlights of the larger-than-life event is the performances. Dona Ganguly’s dance group is all set to perform a spectacular dance performance at the event this year. All the pandal committees are going to get 3 minutes to represent their idols and show their performances. Many eminent personalities grace their presence at the carnival every year. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is also attending the carnival this year.

Kolkatans, here’s an important update for you. Red Road is going to be closed for straight 24 hours. Starting from 12 AM on October 27, it is shutting down till 12 AM on October 28. Vehicular movement is also getting restricted and diverted on the roads close to the venue.

From the first day of Maa Durga’s visit to her paternal home to the day of her return, the days are simply filled with joy and enthusiasm. These days pass away in just a blink of an eye. A couple of days after Durga Puja are a bit hard for many Bengalis but we move forward by taking blessings from Maa Durga and counting days for her arrival in the next year.
