Imagine passing through Church Street in Bengaluru on a Sunday morning and hearing the familiar opening chords of Shape of You out of nowhere. You turn around, and there he is: Ed Sheeran, casually playing his guitar and singing his heart out on the sidewalk. For the lucky fans who happened to be in the right place at the right time today, that’s exactly what happened. However, their excitement was quite short-lived. Read on to learn what happened.

Ed Sheeran’s Street Gig Cut Short In Bengaluru

For fans, the moment was both surreal and heartbreaking. As soon as the people comprehended what was happening, taking in the surreal and exciting moment, the unthinkable happened. It turns out that while Sheeran had taken prior permission for the performance, the growing crowd quickly became a concern. 

As more and more people gathered around, the police, who reportedly didn’t recognise the global superstar, attempted to manage the situation. Bengaluru Police stepped in and pulled the plug. Literally. In a now-viral video, an officer was even seen unplugging Sheeran’s microphone mid-performance.

Naturally, social media did not waste any time. Videos of the incident instantly went viral and garnered a lot of attention from the fans. While some shared their experience of spotting Ed Sheeran in the street, others regretted missing out on the opportunity. Some even question how the police could not recognise him. Others, on the other hand, defended the police for just trying to control the crowd.

He has already mesmerised fans in Pune, Hyderabad, and Chennai with his performances and is now gearing up for his big day two in Bengaluru. Even though his street gig was cut short, Ed Sheeran’s surprise performance on Church Street in Bengaluru has definitely left an unforgettable mark on the city’s music lovers. And if anything, this bizarre little incident just adds another unexpected story to his India tour. 

Even for the fans, this cut-short performance was certainly special. They won’t forget this one anytime soon!
