More than 18 million tourists visit Egypt’s Pyramids Of Giza, a UNESCO World Heritage site, each year. By 2030, Egyptian authorities aim to increase these numbers to 30 million visitors per year. While the pyramids remain a popular tourist attraction, the overcrowding, poor site management, behaviour of untamed vendors, and accusations of mistreating animals has been a cause of concern for the local authorities.

To overcome these issues and improve the overall tourist experience, Egypt’s Giza Pyramids are set to undergo a $51 million revamp. According to Hindustan Times, Orascom Pyramids Entertainment Services Company is leading the revamp project. As part of this project, they will clear out small vendors that end up causing congestion around the Pyramids. In a statement released by the company on X (formerly Twitter), they announced that any small businesses that will resist relocation to a newly designated zone will have to face sanctions.
