End Of An Era: Magician O.P Sharma Who Performed 34,000 Shows, Passes Away At 76

Veteran magician, OP Sharma, 76, passed away on Saturday night at a private hospital in Kanpur, U.P after being ill for a very long time. OP Sharma was undergoing dialysis for a very long time and breathed his last during the treatment later in the evening. The world-famous magician belonged to Barra, Kanpur. His residence was named ‘Bhoot Bunglaw’, with unusual statues installed in front of the gate.

OP Sharma’s relative, Mukesh Sharma, said that his health deteriorated over the past two years after he was diagnosed with Covid-19. Post that he suffered kidney problems and had to go for dialysis twice a week. But for the past 4-5 days his condition worsened and he was admitted to the ICU at a private hospital. On 15 October 2022, at 11:00 pm, doctors at the hospital declared him dead.

OP Sharma gained international recognition and was a renowned master of illusion. Tickets for his shows used to sell out immediately. Reports suggest that he had performed 34,000 magic shows in his career.
A convoy of more than a hundred people used to accompany him whenever the magician went to perform any show. His team consisted of many artists, musicians, singers, make-up men, lighting controllers, painters, tailors, etc. When OP Sharma used to leave from one place to another, all his goods were carried in more than 16 trucks.

Keeping in mind his popularity, Samajwadi Party gave him a ticket for the assembly elections, in 2002, from Govind Nagar. Later in 2019, he joined the BJP.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath mourned OP Sharma’s demise on Twitter.

Not only has the nation lost an ironic personality but the journey of his signature illusion ‘magic’ in India has also come to an end.
