It was recently revealed that Etihad Airways has decided that it will be ending its partnership with Virgin Australia in June 2025. As a result, it’s going to end their codeshare and bilateral frequent-fly partnership. According to a recent report by the Khaleej Times, it was revealed that Etihad Airways, which is the flag carrier of the UAE will be ending its partnership with Virgin Australia. This will come into effect from June 1, 2025, which will end the unilateral codeshare and bilateral frequent-fly partnership between the two airlines. So, with the ending of this partnership, passengers will no longer be able to book their Virgin Australia-operated flights through the booking channels of the UAE flag carrier. Not to mention, members of Etihad Airways won’t even be able to earn guest miles on Virgin Australia flights post June 1.

People With Existing Bookings Are Not Affected

In case you’re wondering, those who already have bookings which include the Virgin Australia operated segment, will face no change in their itinerary. According to the report, the decision was taken as a result of divergence in the strategic directions of the two airlines. In fact, the Abu Dhabi-based airline already has plans to increase flights to Sydney and Melbourne from the summer of 2025.
