Useful Tips For Northern Light Travellers

1. Staying warm in extreme cold has nothing to do with emotions. Proper thermals are what actually help you survive freezing temperatures.
2. Carrying familiar food while travelling is important. Comfort food like theplas can make harsh weather easier to deal with.
3. Black ice is extremely dangerous and can cause sudden falls. Managing gloves, phones, caps, and scarves at the same time only makes it trickier.
4. Outfits that look beautiful in films do not work in real winter conditions. Light fabrics like chiffon offer no protection in freezing weather.
5. The cold should never be taken lightly. In such conditions, wearing more layers is better than wearing fewer.
6. Looking stylish in winter wear is not easy, and it’s okay to admit that.
7. You can either focus on looking sharply dressed or on staying warm and safe. Choosing warmth is the smarter option.
8. Snow pants are not about fashion. They are meant to keep you dry and comfortable, so wearing them is essential.
9. Getting dressed in extreme cold takes a lot of time. Between layering clothes, stopping to catch your breath, and handling accessories, it can take hours.
10. Even after finally getting ready, it’s very easy to realise that one inner thermal layer is still missing.
11. If you miss taking photos against fjords, snowy landscapes, or the Northern Lights, photos taken from the back work just fine.
12. When it comes to winter dressing, only the innermost and outermost layers really matter.
13. Very old snowshoes may not survive extreme cold. Worn-out soles can come apart unexpectedly.
14. It’s best to test snow shoes before travelling or invest in a new pair to avoid trouble.
15. Heeled boots may look attractive, but sturdy and comfortable footwear is safer on snow-covered ground.
16. Swimming with orcas is not dangerous, but the cold water can be extremely challenging.
17. The Northern Lights are one of the few natural sights that often look even better through the camera lens.
