Dubai Airport is a pioneer in operating and returning to the skies. This airport is one of the world’s busiest travel hubs. But the busiest airport in the world was not fully operational lately. The airport has been under maintenance work since 9th May 2022. With the southern runway repaired last year, the northern runway will undergo restoration work.
Airlines That Will Get Impacted Due To This Closure
Dubai International Airport’s (DXB) northern runway will shut down for over six weeks to allow for necessary maintenance. Many flights that would normally fly to and from one of the world’s busiest passenger airports will instead fly in or out of Dubai World Central Airport during this time (DWC). The airlines are namely, Qatar Airways, Spice Jet, Air India Express, Indigo and Fly Dubai. The airport will be partly closed for 45 days starting from 9th May 2022.

Emirates flights won’t face any issues as they will fly from Terminal 3. Dubai World Central Airport accommodates over 150 flights per day. Authorities have requested passengers travelling to double-check flight timings. Passengers departing from DXB might have to re-check their flight terminals as several FlyDubai flights are getting specifically diverted to DWC. DXB’s Northern runway will remain closed for a major renovation.
How To Reach Dubai World Central Airport?
You can travel by taxi to this airport. There’s no metro connectivity to DWC. The nearest metro station is the EXPO 2020 one but again you need to take a cab from there to reach DWC. If you own a vehicle or travelling by personal vehicle, you might get free on-site parking at the airport.
If you need to run across the two airports, then you can use the inter-airport bus. It’s absolutely free for people with connecting flights and is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
