Computer-generated imagery (CGI) has become an indispensable part of filmmaking today. From crafting 3D objects to stimulating environmental conditions like rain or snow, it’s incorporated so seamlessly in films, that you might mistake it for the real deal. Recently, Film Critic Ram Venkat Srikar took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his amusement at seeing a dosa created by CGI in Vijay Deverakonda’s latest film Family Star.
Vijay Deverakonda’s Family Star Has A CGI Dosa
In his post, Ram Venkat Srikar wrote, “Not even in my weirdest fever dreams did I imagine that I’d see a CG dosa in a Telugu film.” Not just in the film, there’s a scene in the teaser where Vijay prepares dosas and serves them to his mom. The white-coloured paper-thin pancake is seen floating in the air for a split second before it plonks itself onto the steel plate. As a South Indian and proud dosa lover, I can say, “Dal (Dose) mein kuch kaala hai” (There’s something fishy about the dosa).
Not even in my weirdest fever dreams did I imagine that I’d see a CG dosa in a Telugu film.

Netizens Poke Fun In Comments Section Of Film Critic’s Post
Naturally, Netizens weren’t the ones to let this one go. @GvjMaddy writes where on one side Nolan is creating nuclear bombs without computer graphics and another side Family Star makers are creating CG Dosa. The X user stated it goes on to show how lazy and relaxed the filmmakers have become and are taking the audience for granted.
Apart from one or two people,Art department is of complete jokers in TFI. Someone could have ordered Dosa online and kept it at shooting location but instead they chose CG which costs even more and completely unnatural.

@Dranonym99 urged the film critic to create a video about unnecessary CGI used in Telugu movies. Another user reminded Netizens that the dosa scene was already heavily criticised in the film. So, probably the makers wanted to rectify it. @nevaunderestimt pointed out that it’s way more cost-effective to use real dosas while shooting films.
But why ?!
U should make a video/post someday about unnecessary CGI in telugu movies which indicates lack of skill in one way !— Dr.Bharat (@Dranonym99) April 5, 2024
One side Nolan is creating nuclear bombs naturally wid our CG work, and another side our Nolan petla creating CG Dosa… this shows how lazy and relaxed our mve makers became and taking audience granted

In the X user’s opinion, corporate-style productions are killing the quality of films. He termed the CG dosa, a waste of time and money. @DazzleDakotaG jokingly asked, “Who needs reality when you have CGI dosas?”
Well, cinephiles and foodies, what do you think of seeing a CGI dosa in Vijay Deverakonda’s new film?
