Film Festival Is Inviting One Fan In A Remote Swiss Island To Watch Films All Alone

Covid-19 virus still exists, and hence wearing masks and following social distancing rules is a must. And now when it comes to social distancing, Sweden’s Goteborg Film Festival has taken it to a whole new level. Goteborg is the biggest film festival in Scandinavia. Yep, the film festival is inviting one movie buff to spend seven days on an isolated lighthouse island. And guess what? The person will only have the company of movies and the sea. Goteborg film festival is going digital this year, but organisers have decided to offer a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to one person.

One Lucky Winner Will Be Chose To Spend A Week On Paster Noster Island

Speaking about this with CNN travel, artistic director Jonas Holmberg said,

“The inspiration for the idea was how people have turned to films for comfort during the pandemic. We are interested in how the audience’s relationship to films changes under those circumstances and wanted to explore this relationship by taking it to the extreme — isolating one person on a small rock in the sea for one week with films as the only company.”

For the winner, the chosen cinema lover will be transferred by boat to the Swedish island of Pater Noster, which Goteborg Film Festival artistic director Jonas Holmberg calls one of the most beautiful and dramatic places he knows.

Winner Will Have To Live A Life In Solitude For A Week

After arriving there, the person will spend a week in the former lighthouse keeper’s house. The person will get to enjoy this unique experience for a week from January 30 to February 6. If you are planning to apply for this process, you must know that the chosen one will not be allowed to have a cellphone, a laptop, a book or any distractions. So basically, it’s just going to be three of you – you, movies and the sea.

If you are planning to consider this, you can apply online, all you have to do is email and say who you are and why you’re interested in the Isolated Cinema. The deadline for the same is January 17. The film festival said it’s already had an influx of applicants from across the world. Here are some of the criteria that you must know.

Winner Doesn’t Have To Pay At All For This Experience

As per Holmberg, the committee is looking for someone who is loves everything about cinema. The chosen applicant should be stable and not be troubled by the idea of spending a week in solitude. For the process, shortlisted applicants will be interviewed before the final selection. And once selected, the winner will also be asked to vlog the daily from the island.

The winning applicant won’t have to pay a single dime for the experience. For the stay, the lighthouse cabin is recently renovated by design agency Stylt, so the chosen film fan will be able to relax in comfort and style. The living room of the lighthouse will be the area fro screening movies, and food will also be provided for self-catering. Speaking about the safety, Holmberg said,

“The stay at the island will be perfectly safe. The person will have a soft bed and nice food. This is not about surviving. For safety reasons, the visitor won’t be totally alone, there will be another person staying on the island but they’ll keep their distance. If everything goes as planned, they will never meet during the seven days.”

The festival is accepting applications from across the world but will need to take into consideration Covid-related lockdowns and travel regulations.
