Are you someone who is fond of astronomical phenomena? Well, then you are in for some brilliant news, as the night sky in the UAE will be lit up with the first meteor shower of 2024 in January. Yes, this is coming just days after brilliant fireworks illuminated the skies across the UAE to welcome the new year. Called the Quadrantids Meteor Shower, it will peak on January 4.

In case you’re wondering, the meteor shower has been named after the defunct constellation Quadrans Muralis. Yes, it is an annual event, which is renowned for its intense burst! According to a report by Khaleej Times, it was mentioned that it originated from the asteroid 2003 EH1. While this is a rare phenomenon, it is known for producing up to 60 or more meteors per hour when it is at its peak.

Where Can You Watch The Meteor Shower?

Regarded as one of the best meteor showers that happens annually according to NASA, the fireballs are quite bright. So, stargazers don’t even need any special equipment or skill to view the shooting stars in the sky. Although it takes up to 30 minutes for the eye to adjust to the darkness, one has to find a secluded spot away from the city lights, preferably a desert, if one wishes to witness this celestial event.

So, if you’re a resident of the UAE, you can witness this phenomenon on January 4. And for this, you can drop by at Al Qudra Desert, Al Awir Desert, or any relatively dark place away from the city lights. Doesn’t it sound absolutely fantastic? After all, watching these fireballs zoom across the sky is nothing short of magical. And it’s an experience that any stargazer wouldn’t want to miss.
