Passengers on a Taiwan-bound Korean Air flight underwent a harrowing experience on Saturday when the cabin pressure system malfunctioned. Many, reportedly, suffered from nosebleeds and ear pain and about 13 of them had to be hospitalised because of the incident. It has been reported that the Korean Air Flight KE189 rapidly descended from over 30,000 feet to around 9,000 feet and this triggered intense discomfort and health problems for many passengers.
Passengers Suffer Nosebleeds & Ear Pain On Korean Air Flight
A Korean Air flight from Seoul to Taichung, Taiwan encountered a malfunction in its cabin pressurisation system on Saturday. Just 50 minutes into the flight, the Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft reported a pressurisation system error. As per a report by India Today, the flight rapidly descended from over 30,000 feet to around 9,000 feet and the pilot had to fly back to the Incheon Airport for safety purposes.
This sudden and intense drop in altitude triggered discomfort and health problems for many passengers. As per local news, two flyers experienced nosebleeds, while 15 complained of ear pain and hyperventilation. About 13 passengers had to be hospitalised for medical assistance. Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported.

A passenger on this Korean Air flight, Chen Yi Ling, took to her Instagram to share this chaotic experience. In the video, passengers can be seen wearing emergency oxygen masks. In her caption, she said, “Emotions are too complicated…Just want to say it’s good to be alive now…”

Airline Apologises & Launches Investigation In This Matter
Following the distressing situation on the Korean Air flight, the airline issued an apology. They also launched an investigation to determine the cause of the pressurisation system failure. In the statement, Korean Air mentioned that they are “undertaking necessary maintenance measures to prevent such incidents in the future.”
The passengers on the Korean Air flight were provided accommodation by the airline. They were also provided with an alternative flight that was scheduled for Sunday morning.
