Tamil Nadu Plans ‘Healthy And Hygienic Food Streets’
Tamil Nadu’s street food is known to be vibrant, flavour-packed and delicious. Be it Kothu Parotta or Kari Dosai, foodies love indulging in these dishes from time to time. And now, the Health Department is planning to improve the quality and hygiene standards of food through a new initiative. According to The Hindu, ‘Healthy and Hygienic Food Streets’ will soon come up on a pilot basis in six places across Tamil Nadu.
One street will be selected in each district to establish this model. Authorities are basically planning to create a hygienic environment, standardise food stalls and also provide financial assistance to street food vendors for their initial investment.

People Can Have Access To Clean & High Quality Street Food
The Tamil Nadu government is also planning to administer typhoid vaccinations to food handlers, cooks and those who serve food at these food streets. This will protect people against infectious food-borne diseases. Health and Family Welfare Minister KG Arunraj shared with DT Next that these model food streets will serve as examples of best practices in food hygiene and safety.
The main objective is to ensure that people in Tamil Nadu have access to clean, safe and quality food from street vendors. Though the plan is still in its initial stages, if everything goes well, the state will officially have six streets dedicated to hygienic street food. Maybe other Indian cities can also adopt a similar model in the future.
